Anyone care to explain to me what insignias are...

Insignias are update for armor that support insignias (nightfall armor and obsidian)... The "old" armor have fixed bonus, like extra energy or extra protection against fire, etc etc. On this armor you only can add runes...

With the armor that support insignias you can put on the bonuses that you want... and runes ofcourse.

this doubt should be in the Nightfall section... because it s a thing exclusive to Nightfall

unfortunatly you can only add insignias to armor crafted in the continent of Elona... this is because as GODh said... armor crafted in Tyria (i don't have factions so i don't know how is the armor there) has implied bonuses... extra armor in certain conditions or extra energy...
